Binghamton teen arrested for attempted murder

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The Binghamton Police Department has arrested a teenager for attempted murder, it announced Monday.

The department said an officer was already on State Street around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 25 monitoring bar closings when he saw a man in the area of ​​Dillinger's Bar fire two shots at an unknown person.

Police said the shots were fired in a northerly direction toward a large number of people on the sidewalk.

The suspect then fled on foot toward Hawley Street, police said. The officer then gave chase.

Other officers responded to the scene and found the 16-year-old suspect at 20 Hawley St.

He had a .380-caliber Glock 42 pistol that was reported stolen in Lexington, Kentucky, police said. Officers found three .380-caliber shell casings in the area of ​​Dillinger's. Police noted that a utility pole in the area of ​​Tom & Marty's, which is next to Dillinger's, was struck by gunfire.

The suspect was also charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and first-degree reckless endangerment.

He was arraigned in juvenile court and remanded in custody at the Oneida County Jail.
