'Unknown' man fled Minneapolis home after 15-year-old girl was shot

Someone fled a north Minneapolis home immediately after a 15-year-old girl was fatally shot in circumstances that law enforcement has not yet publicly disclosed, and a gun was found in the home, according to a search warrant filed Monday.

Shaquila Brown said on Facebook that her younger sister Tyra Kiyae Terry was shot and killed Saturday afternoon inside a two-story home in the 3400 block of N. Logan Avenue.

Terry was taken by paramedics to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, where she died.

As of Monday afternoon, police had not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting, and had not said whether the death was being classified as a homicide or something else.

A police statement released Saturday said two adults and two other teenagers were in the home when officers arrived. However, the court filing in Hennepin County Court said an “unknown person fled the home after the shooting prior to police arrival.”

The revelation came in a search warrant that allowed police to search the home. The warrant said Terry was found in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound to her torso. A gun magazine was “in plain view” on the bedroom floor, but officers “did not observe or locate a weapon” in the room.

Police have not said whether they have found the weapon used to kill Terry.

A search of the home later Saturday afternoon uncovered a firearm with a magazine, four additional magazines, live ammunition, a gun case, two gun boxes, a rifle butt and a duffel bag containing “various firearm items,” the affidavit states.
