SACRAMENTO COUNTY — Detectives say a pair of suspects arrested while attempting to rob an ATM may be linked to other similar incidents in the Sacramento area.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said that shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday, officers received a burglary alarm from the Bank of America near Gold Country Boulevard and Coloma Road. Some officers were already on scene and quickly spotted an SUV leaving the area with its headlights off.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but the suspects did not yield. A short chase ensued, and the suspects eventually struck a curb, causing their SUV to overturn.

Two people got out of the vehicle and fled, but police eventually arrested them. The two men were identified as José Rincon, 38, and his brother Juan, 36.

As police discovered at the bank, the ATM had been ripped out by someone who had tied it with chains. It is not known whether anyone had access to the machine.

Deputies say they also found a loaded, unregistered handgun in the floorboard of the suspects' SUV.

Investigators say a number of similar unreported and unsolved incidents have occurred recently in the same area, leading them to suspect the couple may be involved. Further investigation is needed, however, and the sheriff's office urges anyone with more information to contact them.

The Rincons were booked into the Sacramento County Jail and are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
