Suspect in stabbing of Japanese boy is unemployed and has criminal record, Chinese media report

The man accused of stabbing a japanese boy on the way to school Shenzhen This week, the suspect has a criminal record and no steady job, according to police, who released more information about him than usual in similar cases in China.

The suspect, a 44-year-old man surnamed Zhong, was reportedly arrested by Dongguan police in 2015 for damaging public telecommunications facilities and released on bail, state-run Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported Friday.

The report said that in 2019 he was placed under administrative detention – for a maximum of 15 days – by Shenzhen police for “fabricating facts aimed at disturbing public order.”

Zhong confessed to assaulting the boy on Wednesday, Shenzhen media reported, citing police.
