Carson City arrests: Sheriff's deputies book two for suspected DUIs | Carson City Nevada News

A 51-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI (drugs) second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

According to the booking report, a deputy was dispatched at 4:29 pm to the 3200 block of Market Street in reference to a welfare check on a possible intoxicated driver.

The reporting party observed a vehicle that could not maintain its lane and speed. The reporting party had followed the vehicle from Washoe Valley to the Market Street parking lot and observed a man who appeared to be highly intoxicated, stumbling out of his vehicle and had fallen, the report states.

A CCSO sergeant located the vehicle driving northbound on I-580 near the College Parkway on ramp. The sergeant conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver and sole occupant.

Another officer arrived and made contact with the driver, who was sweating and had a thick white film around his mouth. He also had red watery eyes and thick slurred speech, the report states. The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle, which he did.

The man agreed to submit to field sobriety tests. He denied taking prescribed medications. He showed signs of impairment on all tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .000, the report states. Due to the totality of circumstances and results from the standardized field sobriety tests, the man was arrested. He agreed to consent to a blood test and was taken to the hospital where two vials of blood were drawn and booked into evidence.

Due to the man's vehicle partially blocking traffic, a tow truck was requested. A deputy advised that he located a “tooter” straw, commonly used for inhaling narcotics, on the passenger seat during inventory, according to the report.

The deputy notes in the report that while completing paperwork at the jail, the man's speech became slower and slurred. The deputy asked the man what day it was and he said it was Friday. He kept losing his balance and could not follow instructions. Lease: $2,500.

In other arrests:
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday on suspicion of DUI, speeding and other misdemeanor offenses. According to the report, a deputy patrolling the area of ​​Imperial Way approaching College Parkway observed an SUV failing to complete a stop at the stop sign.

The officer followed the vehicle as it continued west on College Parkway to the controlled intersection with North Carson Street. The vehicle turned south after the light changed, with the vehicle accelerating, pulling away from the deputy's patrol vehicle. The vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed, with the patrol vehicle accelerating to 80 mph to catch up. The officer activated their lights signaling for the vehicle to pull over. The vehicle pulled over in the 2200 block of North Carson Street.

The officer approached the driver, who stated he was trying to get home. The man spoke slowly with slurred speech. The man searched for his driver's license, registration and proof of insurance and informed the officer he did not have his driver's license. He continued looking and didn't have the registration and insurance information.

The officer smelled an odor of alcohol coming from the man's breath. The officer asked if he had been drinking. The man replied he had one beer approximately an hour prior. The man was asked if he would submit to field sobriety tests. The man responded no. He was asked to step out of the vehicle. The man was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He provided a preliminary breath test of .208. He initially volunteered to give his blood for voluntary evidence but then retracted and stated he did not want to freely give blood.

The deputy contacted the on-call district attorney and judge for a warrant, which was granted. The man was taken to jail without incident and a blood draw was performed. He was booked for suspicion of DUI, speeding, failing to possess a driver's license and failure to change address on registration. Lease: $1,137.

— A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant issued Oct. 27, 2022 out of Carson City Municipal Court. Lease: $3,000 cash.
