A vehicle pursued by a police officer hits another vehicle, killing the driver

A man was killed Monday after a vehicle being pursued by a police officer crashed into two other vehicles in Colerain Township, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Ricky Mills, 72, who died in the crash, was not involved in the police pursuit.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Hamilton County Corporal Shane Wiseman began pursuing a vehicle with 13 outstanding warrants on its license plate, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Law enforcement was searching for James Khalid, 33, of Cincinnati, in connection with the warrants.

The pursuit, which continued north on Hamilton Avenue near Interstate 275, ended in a three-vehicle crash. The vehicle associated with Khalid struck one vehicle in the side and then struck a second vehicle at West Kemper and Pippin roads.

Mills was in the second car that was struck and died as a result of the crash, investigators said.

Khalid was seriously injured in the crash. He is being monitored by Hamilton County officers while he is hospitalized.

Wiseman's pursuit of Khalid's vehicle lasted about 1 minute and 35 seconds and covered a distance of 1.6 miles, the sheriff's office said.

Colerain Township Police are handling the investigation into the crash and subsequent charges against Khalid. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office will investigate the pursuit.

The Enquirer requested information about Khalid's arrest warrants and the sheriff's office's pursuit police.
