Pearl Fire near Fort Collins 75% contained

The human-started Pearl Fire raging west of Fort Collins in Larimer County is 90 percent contained, fire officials say. announcement SATURDAY.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, Larimer County officials issued a “clear forest fire”lifting all remaining evacuation orders and allowing normal activity to resume in the region.

The Pearl Fire, which started Monday on private property in Larimer County, has burned 128 acres of land near Red Feather Lakes, fire officials said. That's about the same size as 97 football fields combined.

The area burned by the fire has not increased since firefighting crews began containing it Thursday, firefighters said Saturday.

Containment does not mean the end of a wildfire, it simply refers to the progress of establishing a control line around the fire that can stop the spread of flames. A wildfire can continue to burn for days or weeks after it is fully contained.

Larimer County officials are still investigating the cause of the Pearl Fire, but say it was caused by human activity.
