Milwaukee man charged with fatally shooting teen after being convicted of killing teen in final moments, prosecutors say

An 18-year-old Milwaukee man is in custody after police say a 16-year-old boy named the man as his killer in his final moments.

Aden D. Odom was charged last week with first-degree manslaughter, being an accessory to a felony and using a dangerous weapon.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Travontae T. Greene, who police said was shot Aug. 5 around 5:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Lloyd Street. Attempts to reach his family were unsuccessful.

During his interview with a police detective, Odom denied any involvement in the death, according to a criminal complaint.

Prosecutors allege, based on statements from relatives and surveillance footage, that Odom and Greene had known each other for several years and had recently left a hotel together “to do a robbery” when things must have taken a turn that led to Greene being shot, according to the complaint.

Greene called 911 after he was shot, using a phone whose number he did not know, according to the complaint. “I've been shot, I'm dying,” he told the operator.

Police then conducted a forensic examination of the phone and discovered that it belonged to a man identified as RH in the complaint. Police also discovered a wallet belonging to RH at the scene, according to the complaint.

The first officer on the scene said he found Greene with his hands on his chest, claiming he had been shot. When asked who shot him, he responded “Aden” and left the scene in a “red Chevy,” according to the complaint. An officer found a “significant” injury to Greene, who was shot in the chest and side, according to the complaint.

While in the back of the ambulance, Greene also told another officer that it was Aden, gave a description of his clothing and said it was a “covert operation,” before becoming unable to speak, according to the complaint. Greene died two hours later at Children’s Hospital, according to the medical examiner’s report.

Surveillance footage taken Aug. 5 at a hotel in the 11300 block of West Silver Spring Drive shows Odom, Greene and Greene’s brother, identified in the complaint as TRG, arriving at the hotel in a red Chevrolet, according to the complaint. Video from inside the hotel shows Odom and Greene. When they return to the car, Odom is seen holding a long, unknown object in his sweatshirt, according to the complaint.

“Aden Odom can be seen slipping the long object into his waistband and the object appears to be a long rifle,” the complaint states.

Surveillance footage from Brown Street Academy shows the red Chevrolet driving on North 21st and West Lloyd streets, near the scene of the shooting, according to the complaint.

Greene's brother said he saw Odom and Greene leaving the hotel together. He said that when he asked Greene if they were leaving to commit a robbery, Greene responded “probably something like that,” according to the complaint. He last saw his brother in a small red car, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors say the red Chevrolet does not belong to Odom but to another person identified in the complaint as AM.

Odom, who was held on $150,000 bail, has denied any involvement in the killing, according to the complaint. He admitted to knowing Greene and her brother, but again denied involvement after learning that Greene had said he was the shooter, prosecutors said.
