Houlton Police Investigate Alleged Photo Account Involving Students, No Threats or Criminal Activity Seen

HOULTON, Maine (WAGM) – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Houlton Police Department, in conjunction with local school officials, launched an investigation into the alleged distribution of photographs involving students and individuals from southern Aroostook County.

After interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence, Houlton police said it was discovered that the account was a private “Google Photos account” and not shared on social media. There is no evidence that the two juveniles involved shared the private account on social media and that no violence was intended or implied. Additionally, police say no pornographic photos were observed. All photos collected were taken from public social media sites such as Facebook. The account was private and only had access to two people. Subsequent photos from the account were shared with others by those people. Other photos unrelated to the account had already been uploaded to the account, including pets, family members and friends.

According to HPD, at this point, no evidence has been presented that indicates any threat, assault, or harm to anyone in the photos. The photos were never labeled as a specific list, they were only speculated by others, and there is no threat to the public or criminal violation of the law.

As required by law, detailed information cannot be released and is protected due to the nature of the minors involved. The Houlton Police Department urges the public to avoid speculation based on non-factual information.
