AUBURN — Police arrested a local man Saturday afternoon who allegedly caused between $80,000 and $90,000 in damage to 75 vehicles on the grounds of the Rowe car dealership at 699 Center St.

Skyler Henson, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal mischief and transported to the Androscoggin County Jail. Henson is being held on $5,000 cash bail.

Auburn Deputy Police Chief Tim Cougle said in a news release that the caller who reported the crime informed officers he preferred to speak with them in person and that “the sooner police arrive, the less damage there will be.”

Dispatchers could hear “crashing” noises in the background of the call, Cougle said.

The first officer to arrive on the scene saw Henson swinging a weighted backpack against the windows and hoods of several vehicles in the parking lot. Henson was immediately arrested, Cougle said.

Most of the damage, worth nearly $90,000, to the 75 vehicles was to the front windshields, with some vehicles suffering only body damage.
