Shooting victim identified as 18-year-old National City man

A man who was shot near Chicano Park on Sunday has been identified as an 18-year-old National City resident, San Diego police said Wednesday.

Juan Carlos Porter died at the hospital, police said.

Officers responded to three separate reports of gunshots around midnight, 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. in the area of ​​Chicano Park, on the Interstate 5 southbound on-ramp from Logan Avenue, according to police.

“At approximately 2:10 a.m. Sunday, a vehicle carrying several males stopped at Paradise Valley Hospital. The occupants challenged a San Diego police officer, who was at the hospital on an unrelated assignment,” the department said in a statement. “The males directed the officer to an occupant of the vehicle who had been shot.”

The victim was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later, police said.

Officers found several shell casings and a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire multiple times, the statement said.

No description of the suspect was available.

Detectives were trying to recover CCTV footage of the shooting on Wednesday.
